Cremation Doesn’t Prevent the Service You Deserve

Dec 25, 2018

Will cremation prevent you and your family from holding the kind of services that are essential to the grieving process? No. In fact, there are still viable options.

cremations in the Waverly, IN, area

Some may worry that cremation will get in the way of the kind of service they wish to hold. That simply isn’t the case. Cremation certainly opens up a wide range of possibilities, particularly when it comes to the cremated remains themselves. Cremation does not, however, preclude either funeral or memorial services. If you or someone you know is looking into cremations in or near Waverly, IN, rest assured there are professionals in your area who can address any number of questions or concerns. Funeral directors may also walk you through the cremation process and help you determine if it’s right for you or someone you love. Having additional discussions about the process and possible outcomes may be extremely helpful while you are attempting to plan and make arrangements. The important thing is that you remember cremation won’t get in the way of hosting the kinds of services or ceremonies that best suit your family.

To better understand why cremation doesn’t interfere with other arrangements, it may be helpful to get a better sense of what those arrangements entail.

National Cremation explains, “Many among us wonder what the difference is between a funeral and a memorial service. One key difference is that funeral services usually take place before the cremation while memorial services are done after the cremation, and may also be rendered with or without the decedent’s cremated remains. Both possess the same elements such as opening greetings, prayers, eulogies, family and friends sharing memories of the deceased, and readings of Biblical passages. However, much of what’s involved in the funeral or memorial service depends upon the preferences of the family of the decedent. Some members of the family may decide to do without music in the cemetery; others may prefer a different order of service, especially if it is for a veteran.”

Note that a funeral service may be important to finding immediate closure and, frankly, getting things out of the way. Many families don’t like the idea of a death hanging over them for any unnecessary period of time. They may wish to pursue a funeral service in the near term to assure everything is handled quickly and with a sense of finality.

On the other hand, memorial services certainly allow many families additional time to plan. That can be extremely helpful in a world where arrangements weren’t previously made or the deceased’s final wishes aren’t entirely clear. Memorial services also make it easier for some families to attend, particularly if a significant apportionment thereof lives out of town.

Whether one is primarily interested in funeral or memorial services, there are many common features. Friends and family may gather and pay their respects, interact with one another and deal with the grieving process more successfully. Those are all good things, and cremation won’t get in the way.
