Alberta W. Harmon, 95, Plainfield, died peacefully December 26, 2015, in Meadow Lakes, Mooresville. Mrs. Harmon was born February 29, 1920, in Switz City, to the late Albert E. and Mary Emma (Barter) Webster.
She graduated from Switz City High School and attended the College of William & Mary. Mrs. Harmon bravely served in the Women’s Army Corp Branch of the United States Army and was a 54 year member of the American Legion in East Chicago, Indiana. She earned a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Indiana State University. A longtime teacher, Mrs. Harmon taught home economics in Dugger, Linton, and retired from East Chicago Roosevelt in 1986. She was a 50+ year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Newberry and had served as the past Matron and Grand Representative on numerous occasions. An accomplished musician, she could play the saxophone and the violin. Mrs. Harmon also enjoyed traveling, having visited all 50 states, 8 Canadian provinces, and also traveled extensively internationally. Above all, she was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Frances Sachon; sister, Margaret Wright and Ann Webster; brothers, Fred, John, and William Webster; a granddaughter, Mary Rebecca Girdner.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Margaret Girdner of Martinsville; granddaughter, Donna Klebusch (CA Swope) of Gosport; great granddaughters, Nikki Martin (Adam) of Indianapolis and Ashley Armstrong (Jon) of Florida; great great grandchild, Isabella Martin.
Cremation will take place and services will be announced at a later date. Funeral and cremation arrangements are entrusted to Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville.
