Alice S. Wright

Alice S. Wright, 85, Mooresville, died February 23, 2015, in Meadow Lakes, Mooresville. Alice was born July 8, 1929, in Morgan County, to the late Earl “Jerry” Shields and Rebecca Romine Shields Hardin.

Alice graduated from Mooresville High School in 1947. For many years she worked in various office settings in the Mooresville area. Additionally, Alice was a longtime Tupperware sales representative and is thought to be the oldest and longest tenured Tupperware salesperson in the state. Her mother wrote a column in the Mooresville-Decatur Times called “Becky’s Bit”. Alice took over that column years ago and it was renamed “Alice Writes”. She wrote about the happenings in Mooresville, Monrovia, and the surrounding communities. She was a faithful and devoted member of the Mooresville Friends Church and was very active in the Mooresville and Monrovia Chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star. Alice was a collector and creator of miniatures. She was a longtime volunteer and docent at the Museum of Miniature Houses in Carmel.

Survivors include one daughter, Patty Kirkpatrick (Marty) of Rockville; sister, Margaret Powell; grandchildren, Jesse Kirkpatrick (Carrie) and Erin Morgan (Jason); great grandchildren, Kylie and Dalton Morgan; Owen and Addie Burns; special cousins, Carol Romine, Margaret Rhea, Judy Kelly, and Linda Romine.

Friends and family will gather on Thursday, February 26, 2015, 5 to 8 p.m. in the chapel at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m., Friday, February 27, 2015, in the Mooresville Friends Church. Pastor Sue Whitesel will officiate, and burial will be in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
