Andrew H. Kerl
73, of Indianapolis, passed away on August 27, 2021, at the V.A Medical Center in Indianapolis. Andy was born on August 1, 1948, in East Amherst, NY to the late Mariann (Schmitt) and Andrew H. Kerl.
Andy proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army in the CCO 4th Medical Battalion, during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home from service, he married the love of his life, Altha (Hartley) Kerl on August 1, 1969, which was also his 21st birthday. Together they were married over 52 years and had three children, Chris, David, and Becky.
In his younger years, he was involved in Scouting with his sons, serving as a Scoutmaster of Troop #106. He also enjoyed working with his hands and embarked on a long career as a Commercial Maintenance Mechanic for various places. A natural problem solver, he could fix anything and liked learning new things, especially involving technology. He enjoyed staying ahead of the curve with computers, often teaching others. He also enjoyed painting, photography, fishing, woodworking, gardening and taking pride in his lawn. Some of his artwork, earned awards at the Indiana State Fair. He will be remembered as a quiet man, but when he spoke, he always had wise advice and wisdom to share.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brother Roger Kerl and a sister-in-law Faith Kerl.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Altha (Hartley) Kerl; children Chris Kerl (Christy), David Kerl (Shannon), Becky Kerl Reed (Jimmy Grinestaff); siblings Marty Kerl, Ann Seward (Warren), Mary Ann Kerl, Ron Kerl (Mary), Carol Kerl; grandchildren Britni, Matthew, Brayden, Donna and Branden.
