Arthur R. “Roddie” Cowans, 62, Indianapolis, passed away September 26, 2016, in Eskenazi Hospital, Indianapolis. Mr. Cowans was born May 24, 1954, in Harlan, Kentucky, to the late Arthur and Flonnie (Taylor) Cowans.
He attended high school in Indianapolis and worked for American Valve for 25 years. After moving to Tennessee, Roddie worked for Cherokee Porcelain for several years. He enjoyed working various word puzzles, and Pogo. Little House on the Prairie, the Waltons, StarTrek, and Andy Griffith were among his favorite television shows. He will be missed by a loving family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Jack Cowans, Wayne Cowans, and Yvonne Hendricks.
Survivors include his wife, Rita (DeVellen) Cowans, to whom he was united in marriage February 19, 1977; sons, Brad and Travis Jones both of Indianapolis; brothers, Kenny and Raymond Cowans both of Indianapolis; sisters, Mary Miracle of Kentucky and Payton Cowans of Indianapolis; ten grandchildren, Charity, Chelsea, Austin, Kimberly, Kyle, Daniel, Travis, Rita, Amanda, and Sabrina; one great grandchild, Audrey.
The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2016, at the Salvation Army, 1337 Shelby Street, Indianapolis. Friends may call there from 1 p.m. until service time.
