Arthur Raymond Raney, Jr. 96, Mooresville, passed away peacefully at home March 26, 2020. Mr. Raney was born February 3, 1924, in Bedford, to the late Arthur Raymond and Lillian (Carter) Raney.
Art graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and proudly served in the Army Air Corp during World War II where he trained to fly B17s. He also served in the Indiana National Guard from 1948-74, retiring as Colonel. He began a successful career in law enforcement, working with the Indiana State Police for 29 years, retiring as the Assistant Superintendent. He then worked as the Director of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy for many years, retiring in 1995.
Always civically mind, Art was a devoted member of Town Center Church in Mooresville, a life member of the National Guard Association, American Legion Post 103, and long time member of Gideons International. He was also a member of the Pioneers of Indiana State Police, the Association of Chiefs of Police, Mooresville Lions Club, and the International Society of Law Enforcement Academies.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Maxine (Whitted) Raney, a brother, Murray Tabor Raney and a sister, Mary Canada.
Survivors include his daughter, Kathy Diane Raney of Mooresville; sons, Arthur Raymond Raney, III (Linda) of New Mexico and William Alan Raney (Susan Stiles) of Ohio; one grandson, Tim Sharp (Joanna); two great grandchildren, Ajax and Athena Sharp; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Art's Life Celebration Visitation and Memorial will take place at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, on Sunday, October 17, 2021, 2 to 3 p.m., with services beginning at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions are encouraged to Gideons International.
