Benjamin “Bud” Hansel, 82, recently of Gadsden, Alabama, formerly of Brooklyn, passed away January 26, 2021. Bud was born October 20, 1938, in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, to the late Samuel G. and Mary E. (Payne) Hansel.
He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and retired as a Staff Sergeant in June of 1971. He worked as a dispatcher for the Mooresville Police Department and later worked for Mooresville Automotive Supply as a parts clerk for 20 years. Bud was a member of Victory Lighthouse Holiness Church in Kentucky and most recently attended Liberty Holiness Church in Alabama; he was strong in his faith. He was also a life-member of the Disabled American Veterans. Bud will be fondly remembered for his strong work ethic and his generous spirit.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Shirley Ann (Swatts) Hansel; an infant son, Ronald R. Hansel; brothers, Alonzo, James, and Billy Hansel; sisters, Nancy Eggers Brenda and Martha Hansel.
Survivors include children, Donald R. Hansel, Judy K. (Jerry) Chase, Rev. James L. (Paula) Hansel; brothers, John (Darlena) Hansel and Bradley (Linda) Hansel; five grandchildren; several great grandchildren.
Visitation is Sunday, January 31, 2021, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Monday, February 1, 2021, at the funeral home, with Rev. James Hansel and Rev. Danny Scott officiating. Burial will be in White Lick Cemetery.
