Betty Jean Byers, 89, Camby, formerly of North Webster, passed away August 18, 2018. Mrs. Byers was born December 25, 1928, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Alex and Hazel (Tandy) Macdonald.
She graduated from high school in Detroit and attended Bob Jones University, where she met her future husband, Rev. Clyde Lindburgh Byers. As a preacher’s wife, they lived in various communities throughout northern Indiana. She was always active in church ministry and the United Methodist Women. She was an active member of North Webster United Methodist Church and Cromwell United Methodist Church. Early on, she taught kindergarten in Larwell and had been a librarian in Galveston. Mrs. Byers always enjoyed reading her Bible, listening to gospel hymns, and watching church programs on television. She was also an accomplished gardener.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Clyde Lindburgh Byers.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol Stead of Camby; a son, David Byers of North Webster; sister, Elaine Howe of Grand Rapids, Michigan; two grandchildren, Jamie (Ryan) Redelman and Kyle (Bethany) Stead.
Services will be held privately and calling hours will not be observed. She will be interred next to her husband in Bluffton, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church Campgrounds. If your preference is to send flowers, arrangements will be received at Carol’s residence.
