Betty Jean Kays, 85, lifelong resident of Mooresville, died March 23, 2013, in Meadow Lakes. She was born on July 25, 1927, in Mooresville, to the late Frank and Maggie (Smitherman) Joyner.
Betty graduated from Mooresville High School in 1945. She was a faithful member of the Mooresville Friends Church and Mooresville Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Kays held various jobs within the community doing clerical work for Newcomer’s Lumber, Citizens Bank, and the Morgan County Courthouse. She enjoyed reading and gardening in her flowerbeds.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd M. Kays, to whom she was united in marriage on September 21, 1954; siblings, John W. Joyner, Charles 'Bill' V. Joyner, Bessie Lee Joyner, Eileen Altman, David W. Joyner, and Mary Catherine 'Kay' Carr.
Survivors include her children, Douglas Kays (Kathryn) of Rochester, and Charles Kays of Mooresville; and three grandchildren, Michael, Stephen, and Patrick Kays.
Visitation will be held from noon to 1p.m., on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, in the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The graveside service will follow in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville. Pastor Sue Whitesel will officiate the services.
