Brenda Mitchell, 63, Centerton and lifelong Morgan County resident, passed away December 25, 2015, in St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis. Brenda was born July 27, 1952, in Martinsville, the daughter of the late Todd and Mary (Lewis) Johnson.
She graduated from Martinsville High School in 1970 and attended Indiana University. Brenda worked for ten years as the cafeteria manager at Centerton Elementary School. An active civic leader, Brenda was a 4-H Leader, served on the Morgan County Fair Board, and volunteered with the Morgan County Fair Queen Pageant. She was a member of the Brooklyn Order of the Eastern Star, Alpha Tau Chapter of Sigma Beta Sorority and was a faithful member of the Brooklyn Christian Church. Brenda was actively involved in Republican politics for many years and organized the monthly breakfasts for three years.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Mitchell, to whom she was united in marriage February 14, 1975; one daughter, Kris Burns (Tony) of Centerton; grandson, Justin Burns; one brother, MC Johnson (Belinda) of Martinsville.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of Brenda Mitchell on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, 4 to 8 p.m. in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The Celebration of Life will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at the funeral home, with additional visitation from 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Morgan County Humane Society.
