Burdetta V. Shaffer Russell, 96, passed away November 29, 2016, at Worthington Place, Camby. Mrs. Russell was born June 16, 1920, in Indianapolis, to the late Harry E. and Cora (Brittain) Shaffer. She married Omer Dell Russell on August 13, 1943, and he preceded her in death in 1984.
Mrs. Russell graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1938. She worked as a self-employed beautician for a number of years. More recently, she looked after several real estate properties as a landlord. She had been a member of Lynhurst Baptist and Friendswood Baptist Churches. She was also a 75-year member of the Bridgeport Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Russell enjoyed several retirement years in Bradenton, Florida. She will be missed by her loving family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Jeffery L. Russell, Sr.; two brothers, Harry Shaffer, Jr. and Henry Shaffer; one sister, Donna Shaffer McGuire; one grandson, Neil J. Russell; and a great granddaughter, Crystal Russell.
Survivors include her son, Harry J. Russell (Suan) of Texas; sister, Evelyn Shaffer Layton of Indianapolis; four grandsons, Jeffery L. Russell, Jr., Eric D. Russell, Dale E. Russell, and Dean A. Russell; seven great grandchildren.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of Burdetta Russell on Saturday, December 3, 2016, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will follow at 12 Noon. Burial will be in Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis.
