Calvin J. Finney, 93, Indianapolis, passed away September 5, 2019. Mr. Finney was born December 4, 1925, in Marshall, Illinois, to the late Calvin Jonathan Finney and Mary Ellen (McFarling).
He attended high school in Illinois and honorably served in the United States Army during World War II and in the United States Air Force during the Korean War era. During World War II he was a Parachute Demolition Specialist and a veteran of the Battle of Ardennes-Alsace and was deeply involved with the Berlin Airlift. Calvin was very proud of his service to the country and proud of our military. He was an avid reader and study of military history. He worked for many years at McFarling Foods in Indianapolis. Calvin enjoyed researching genealogy and spent many hours in cemeteries and libraries enabling him to trace his family history dating back to the 1600’s. He also enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. His quick wit and humor will be missed by family and friends alike.
Survivors include three sons, Steven, Charles, and Timothy Finney; one daughter, Denise Schwedler; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
According to his wishes, cremation will take place and interment will occur in the South Cemetery, Hazel Dell, Illinois.
