Charles E. “Wimpy” O’Connor
88 of Mooresville, passed away on March 2, 2022, at IU West Hospital. Charles was born on August 18, 1933 in Montgomery, Indiana to the late John Patrick O’Connor and Cora (Mudd) O’Connor.
Charles graduated from Montgomery High School and attended Vincennes University. After graduation, he honorably served in the U.S. Army. He married the love of his life, Dorothy (Wade) O’Connor on May 8, 1965 and were married for 56 years.
Charles was a forklift operator at Chevy Truck & Bus for 35 years, retiring in 1998. He enjoyed tinkering with clocks and watches during the cold weather months and would tinker around with machinery in his barn and tended to his garden during the warmer months. He also enjoyed going to flea markets and collecting antiques as well as cheering on his beloved St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
However, family was the cornerstone of Charles’ life. He was proud of his Irish heritage, enjoyed family gatherings and staying in touch with family. He coached his children’s little league teams and rarely missed a grandchild’s ball game. He will be dearly missed by a loving family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant son Michael O’Connor, son Jim O’Connor; brothers Mike, Ernie, Paul, Bob, Austin, Tommy; sisters Camilla McKinney and Aggie Arvin.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy (Wade) O’Connor; sons Tom (Andrea) O’Connor, Andy (Megan) O’Connor; daughters Cindy (Jason) Bond, Paula (Alvin) Lecher; brother Danny (Louise) O’Connor; 14 grandchildren 2 great grandchildren and a bonus grandson; brothers in law James (Ruth Ann) Wade, Don Wade; sisters in law Helen Wade, Aggie Wade and Mary O’Connor.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 7th from 4-8pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 8th at 11am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where he was a long-time parishioner. Burial will follow at 3pm Tuesday at St. Peters Cemetery in Montgomery, Indiana.
Memorial contributions are encouraged to be made to the St. Peter’s Cemetery Association, Montgomery, Indiana.
