Charles G. Allen, 72, Waverly, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family April 18, 2014. Mr. Allen was born February 12, 1942, in London, Kentucky.
He graduated from Mooresville High School in 1960. Charlie enjoyed a career in construction that spanned more than 50 years and was the co-owner and operator of Allen – Poteet Construction. He was an avid fisherman and had been the president of Tri-County Bass Club. He also enjoyed playing golf, shooting pool, and cheering for the IU Hoosiers basketball team. Above all, Charlie was a self-made, very hard working family man. His family will miss his fun sense of humor and the love he showed all of them.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Allen; mother and step-father, Willie and Clarence Parman; brother, Troy Sweet; sister, Lois Gaines.
Survivors include his wife, Tessie (Hutson) Allen, to whom he was united in marriage January 12, 1973; children, Paula Allen Raikes of Mooresville, Charles Jeffery “C.J.” Allen (Tracie) of Mooresville, and Jeff Allen (Lisanne) of Greenwood; brother, Elmas Sweet of Mooresville; sister, Polly Young of Mooresville; half-siblings, Randy, Raymond, Carl, and Ruby; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren.
The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 22, 2014, in the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Calling will be at the funeral home on Monday, April 21, 2014, 4 to 8 p.m. Rev. Terry Crist will officiate and burial will be in Lincoln Memory Gardens, Whitestown.
