Charles W. “Sonny” Wheeler
78, of Martinsville, passed away after a long illness on September 9, 2017. Sonny was born on March 21, 1939 in Jere, West Virginia to the late Charles Menear and Hazel (Wheeler) Luzader.
Sonny proudly and honorably served his country in the US Army. After service, Sonny worked various job including, Firestone Rubber Company in Georgia, a draftsman for Heatherington- Berner for about 10 years and finally as a custodian and maintenance for Mooresville School Corporation for 20 years, before retiring in 2007. These experiences led him to become a “Jack of All Trades” as he would tinker and fix about anything.
Sonny loved bowing, pitching horseshoes, hunting and was an expert shot in his military days.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gladys (Napier) Wheeler, of Martinsville, a daughter; Kellie L. Rhodes and her husband Brian of Camby, a brother; James R. Wheeler and his wife Brenda of Lakeland, FL, a sister; Christine Lynch of Morgantown, West Virginia and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday Sept. 13th from 4-8pm in Carlisle- Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Funeral services will be held Thursday Sept. 14th at 1pm at the funeral home.
Burial will follow the services in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sonny's name to St Jude Children's Hospital.
