Connie Lee Alward, 89, of Monrovia, passed away on October 18, 2020. Connie was born April 7, 1931, in Fountain County, to the late Arista and Sadie (Duchene) Alward. He married Delores Shumaker on November 5, 1955; who preceded him in death on December 2, 2019.
Connie proudly served for the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Greencastle VFW. Connie worked many years at IBM as a customer engineer and field engineer. He was a pilot and enjoyed flying. Connie also was a flight instructor at Greencastle Airport. He also liked to go camping, traveling, computers, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren. Connie will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by siblings, Lowell Alward, Gordon Alward, and Marie Nickell.
He is survived by his sons, Michael (Lisa) Alward and Robert (Laura) Alward; five grandchildren, Julia (Brooks) Gieseking, Jessica Alward, Clay (Hannah) Alward, Brandon Fisher, Haley (Will) Ellis; and great grandchildren, Sawyer and Augustus Ellis.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with visitation from 12 p.m. until the services at 1:30pm. Inurnment will be in New Providence Cemetery, Greencastle. While flowers are welcome, memorial contributions may be made out to National Kidney Foundation: 911 E. 86th St. #100, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240.
