Danuta “Donna” Cunningham

77, of Mooresville, passed away on December 3, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. Donna was born on May 1, 1945 in Monki, Poland. Early in her life, Donna’s parents recognized that immigrating to the United States would give Donna the opportunity for a better life, so they arranged for her marriage to an American, so she could realize the American Dream.

Although her marriage didn’t last, she persevered with her family to realize the American Dream. She met George Cunningham while working at Brach’s Candy in Chicago, IL. They married, had their ups and downs, but recently celebrated 45 years of marriage. A better opportunity at General Motors/Allison Transmission in Indianapolis. George commuted for several years from Chicago to Indianapolis, until they could afford to move the family to Indiana. They settled in Mooresville in 2001 as Donna found the perfect home, with a little land, that she could call her own. There, she loved tending to her garden and spoiling her grandchildren every chance she could. She embraced the role of “Babcia” and loved playing with her grandchildren, reading to them and teaching them how to cook traditional Polish dishes. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, watching old TV shows with her husband, like McHale’s Navy, M.A.S.H., and Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C. She will be remembered for her strong work ethic, a wonderful cook, her kind, loving heart, who despite all the pain she experienced throughout her life, made it a point to help take away the pain in others. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and close friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, George E. Cunningham, children Helen Zabielski, Stanley Zabielski, Anna Zabielski, Edward Cunningham; 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, whom she all adored.

Friends and family will gather to celebrate Donna’s life on Tuesday, December 6th from 4-8pm at Carlisle Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with services beginning at 8pm Tuesday in the funeral home. Cremation will follow the services.
