David A. “Al” Johnson, 88, of Plainfield, passed away January 24, 2017 at Indiana University Health, Methodist Hospital following injuries sustained in an accident last week. The son of Alvin J. and Lavenia E. (Harris) Johnson Al was born April 17, 1928; his parents preceded him in death. On January 8, 2011 he was united in marriage to his loving wife, Marietta (Mann) Johnson and she survives.
Al was a self-employed carpenter for many years. He was a member of Lakeview Christian Center. After retirement, Al enjoyed working in his garden, traveling and spending time with his family.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Betty Johnson; his daughter, Jenny Johnson; granddaughter, Gina Hillard and seven brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Marietta; two daughters, Sue (Lee) Watkins of Plainfield and Helen (Rick) Thorpe of Mooresville; a step daughter, Sherry (Jimmy) Flanagan of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Aaron Hillard, Courtney Lee, Lindsey Vannice, and Ricky Thorpe; three step grandsons, 10 great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Al Johnson on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service and Crematory in Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
