David N. Rihm, 83, Mooresville, passed away unexpectedly June 17, 2021, after having a massive stroke earlier in the week. David was born November 6, 1937, in Morgantown, to the late Norbert and Mary Ann (Heim) Rihm.
David graduated from Marian University in 1959 and worked for 14 years at the Indiana State Board of Accounts and 23 years at the Indiana State Budget Agency, retiring in 1999.
Dave was a devout Catholic and charter member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, where he was a member of Parish Council and was a Eucharistic Minister for years. He was a charter member of the St. Thomas More Knights of Columbus Council 7431, served as the council’s first Grand Knight, and served as the council’s Financial Secretary for 29 years, chaired the Citrus Drive for 35 years, and chaired the Newspaper Drive for 30 years. He was also a 4th Degree member of the Bishop Chatard Assembly and was Deputy Commander for 25 years. He was named the 2008 Catholic Layman of the Year in the Bishop Chatard Assembly. He served as Treasurer of the Central Indiana Chapter of K of C for 15 years. Dave had a sincere respect and appreciation for all things related to the Knights of Columbus.
Always one to stay busy, Dave was a charter member, past president, and treasurer of the Mooresville Optimist Club and was very instrumental in starting a youth soccer league in Mooresville that served 500-600 children a season. Many years ago when everyone and their brother took a newspaper, Dave started and organized Mooresville’s monthly Newspaper Drive. He was strongly committed and devoted all things related to recycling. Dave systematically (as most Dave things were done) was responsible for organizing a team of volunteers that collected literally tons of paper, month after month, year after year.
He was the treasurer of the Marleywoods Homeowners’ Association, Inc. for 30 years. He was named the Marian University Distinguished Alumni in 2007. Over the many years, Dave donated over 20 gallons of blood to the Central Indiana Regional Blood Center. With all of this volunteer work and a busy professional career, Dave still had time to be a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He will be fondly remembered by a loving family and many friends.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruth (Mayer) Rihm; son, Mark Rihm; daughter, Jennifer (Steve) Wilson; brothers, John (Bonnie) Rihm and Jack Rihm; grandchildren, Desirae and Gehrig Rihm and Emma Wilson; great grandchild, Brannon.
