Delbert W. Gray

82, of Mooresville, passed away on July 20, 2023, at his home. Delbert was born on September 2, 1940 in Wynnburg, Tennessee to the late Wayne Gray and Albertine (Dotson) Gray.

On November 7, 1961, Delbert was united in marriage with Jo Ann Johnson, and they were married for 55 years at the time of her passing in 2017. He worked as a painter for Indiana Desco, before becoming an independent contractor for many years, before retiring in 2012. Talented with his hands, Delbert could build just about anything he put his mind to. He also enjoyed CB radio and was a HAM radio operator. He will be remembered as a devoted family man and a wonderful caregiver to his wife Jo Ann.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann Gray, sisters Judy Brummett, Kathy Gray, and a brother David Gray.

He is survived by two daughters, Paula Jo (Brent) Shaw of Panama City, Florida and Cynthia Sue (Michael) Adams of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; son, Richard Lloyd Smith of Mooresville; brothers, Gerald Gray, Henry Gray; grandchildren, Richard G. (Kelli) Stevenson, Richard D. Smith, Brittney Lehr, Chad D.  (Kristi) Adams, Jackie R. (Mary-Amber) Adams, Mikie W. Adams; great grandchildren Ashlynn, Kelsi, Briley, Raina, Breeze, Logan, Peyton, Maleah, Kinley, Carlie, Maddie, MJ, Lyla and a great-great grandchild Fynlee.

He will be cremated, and a private burial will take place, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife in Mooresville Cemetery. The family will host a celebration of Delbert’s life on Saturday, July 29^th from 2-4pm at the Mooresville Masonic Lodge, 800 Indianapolis Road, Mooresville, IN 46158, with services beginning at 2pm.
