Dennis H. Powell, 72, Martinsville, died May 18, 2015, in St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis. Mr. Powell was born September 16, 1942, in Martinsville, to the late Harold and Katherine (Japport) Powell.
He graduated from Martinsville High School and was employed as a forklift driver for General Motors for more than 30 years. He also owned and operated Powell Rod Ranch for many years. Dennis enjoyed all things having to do with racing, including stock cars and NASCAR. He was an avid collector or Classic vehicles. Additionally, he loved to mow grass and was very content on any riding mower.
Dennis was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Sherry Powell.
Survivors include his children, Rob Powell of Franklin, Amber Powell of Martinsville, Amanda Olmsted of Martinsville, and Denise Powell of Whiteland; grandchildren, Stacy L. Powell, Brandon Powell, Hayden Olmsted, Cullen Olmsted, Trever Linder, and Brayden Powell; great grandson, Jalen Hancock.
The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 23, 2015, in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with calling there from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 22, 2015.
