Donald C. Swindle

Donald C. Swindle, 92, Mooresville, passed away January 22, 2018, in the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis. Mr. Swindle was born July 18, 1925, in Lafayette, Tennessee, to the late Elijah and Ruth (Cochran) Swindle.

Don proudly served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II and was involved in the invasions of Roi Namur, Tinian, Saipan, and Iwo Jima. He was honored as a Purple Heart Recipient. He was a member of the Marine Corp League and had been interviewed for Oliver North’s book and television documentary called War Stories. He always looked forward to attending Marine reunions also. A fair and honest man, Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, and more recently had embraced using the computer to keep in touch with friends through email. Don worked for 35 years for General Motors. He will be fondly remembered by a loving family and friends for his great gift of telling stories.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Mark A. Swindle, one brother, and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, June (Thayer) Swindle; sons, Matt (Cathy) Swindle of Texas and Michael (Kay) Swindle of Texas; several grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.

The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2018, in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with calling there from 12 Noon. Military honors will be performed by the Mooresville Honor Guard and the Morgan County Marine Corp League.
