Doris L. Harness, 88, of Mooresville, passed away at 1:10 pm on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Mooresville. The daughter of Alvah Ray and Elsie Marie (Mitchell) Girdley, she was born November 20, 1928 in Paris, Illinois; her parents both preceded her in death. On May 20, 1952 Doris was united in marriage to her husband, Vernon Fredrick Harness and he preceded her in death in 1991.
Doris was a mail clerk at Kendrick Hospital in Mooresville for 15 years; she retired in 1999. She was a faithful member of New Life Fellowship in Whiteland. A kind and loving soul, Doris enjoyed all types of animals, but she especially enjoyed training and teaching dogs to do tricks. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking.
Along with her parents and husband, Vernon, she was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Daniel Joe Girdley and three other siblings, Warren Arthur Girdley, Betty Joan Nevins, and Lola Irene Bell.
Survivors include four of her siblings, Robert Dean Girdley of New Ross, Indiana, David Carol (Nancy) Girdley of Bainbridge, Indiana, Patty Marie Frahm of Indianapolis, and Martha Kay (Tim) Turner of Mooresville; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Doris L. Harness on Thursday, March 2, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Doris will be laid to rest at Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.
