Doris O. Melton, 85, of Mooresville, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at her daughter’s residence in Brooklyn. The daughter of Thorvald and Maudie (Hawn) Taylor, Doris was born April 22, 1931 in Lancing, Tennessee; her parents preceded her in death. On April 6, 1946 she was united in marriage to her loving husband, William F. Melton and he preceded her in death on March 6, 1999.
Doris was a homemaker for many years while raising her family, she later worked as a nursing assistant at Kendrick Health and Miller’s Merry Manor for many years. She enjoyed quilting, painting, reading, gardening, canning, and spending time with her miniature schnauzer, Mandy who recently preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Allen H. and Wayne D. Melton; a daughter, Sherri Briggs; two brothers, Leonard and Joseph Taylor; and two sisters, Gladys Bailey and Marlene Varner.
Survivors include her children, Thomas J. Melton of Colorado Springs, Colorado, David W. (Linda) Melton of Martinsville, Tracy A. (Daniel) Boritzki of Palm Bay, Florida and Anita K. (Richard) Canada of Brooklyn; her brother, Gordon Taylor of Martinsburg, West Virginia; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Doris Melton from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at White Lick Cemetery in Mooresville.
