Dorothy M. Jarvis

67, of Indianapolis, IN passed away on August 20, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born on July 4, 1952 to the late Clare (Helton) Gifford and Loyal J. Gifford in Bath, New York.

As a young lady, her family moved from New York to Terre Haute and later in Indianapolis. Dorothy grew up on the near Eastside attending Arsenal Tech High School, later graduating from Manual High School. After high school, Dorothy worked for Pioneer Title Insurance Company. It was at that time, she was set up on a blind date with Daniel Jarvis and immediately they hit it off and were married a year later on June 4, 1971. Once Daniel and Dorothy started their family, she stayed home to raise their three sons. Later, once the boys were in school, Dorothy went back to work part time for Pioneer Title, but later accepted a position with Perry Township Schools as a bus driver for 26 years until her retirement.
In her spare time, she enjoyed scrapbooking, participating in local scrapbooking groups, which she enjoyed using the latest scrapbook equipment as well as finding out the latest gossip.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers John Gifford and Loyal Joseph Gifford.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Daniel Jarvis; sons Dale Jarvis, David Jarvis, Duane Jarvis; brothers LeRoy Gifford, David Gifford, Leslie James Gifford, Albert Gifford; half-sister Vickie Bair and 6 grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Saturday from 2-4pm at Carlisle- Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, IN, with services beginning at 4pm Saturday in the funeral home, with Pastor Dennis Payton, officiating.

While flowers are welcomed, memorial contributions may be directed in Dorothy’s memory to the American Cancer Society or to the donor’s favorite charity.
