Dr. Richard N. Halstead, D.O., 76, Mooresville, passed away June 12, 2023, after a lengthy illness. Rick was born November 24, 1946, in Oak Hill, West Virginia, to the late Aubrey and Jesse Mae (Bowling) Halstead. He married Melodie (Prilliman) Halstead in 1991, and she survives.
Rick did his schooling in West Virginia primarily and graduated from the West Virginia University of Osteopathic Medicine. He worked under Dr. Miller for a brief period before starting his own practice, Richard N. Halstead Osteopathic Medicine, that he carefully and thoughtfully operated for 40 years, retiring in 2016. Dr. Halstead was on the board of Westview Osteopathic Hospital for many years and served on the board of Marian University. He received the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award presented by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation at Marian University in 2016. He was always an active learner, looking for ways to improve, and staying current with his practice and daily life. Dr. Halstead lived and breathed medicine and was extremely devoted to his work and his patients.
Additionally, Rick was a faithful member of Mt. Gilead Church and served as a Sunday School teacher, worked with the children’s ministry, and was actively involved in the prison ministry at Mt. Gilead. Rick studied his Bible daily. A dedicated volunteer with Churches in Mission, he also found time to be an accomplished woodworker. Family was always important to Rick, and he always looked forward to family game nights. Dr. Rick Halstead will be remembered for his love for people, his strong devotion to his faith, family, and his patients, and his wonderful sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Melodie; children, David Mazon, Jacob Halstead, Ariel (Nick) Halstead-Allen; Ariana Halstead; sister, Helen (the late Richard) Mullins and Cora Evans; granddaughter, Samantha Mazon.
Rick’s Life Celebration® Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 39 E. High Street, Mooresville. Visitation will be Thursday, June 15, 2023, 5 to 8 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 11 a.m., Friday, June 16, 2023. Burial will follow in White Lick Cemetery.
