Durland “Mike” H. Patterson Jr.
88, of Plainfield, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2022 with his loving family by his side. Durland was born in Lafayette, Indiana on September 25, 1933, to the late Durland Sr. & Mary Patterson. Mike graduated from Lafayette High School, Wabash College and went on to achieve his Masters Degree from Purdue. Mike retired from the Indiana State Board of Health after 30 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mooresville for over 60 years. Mike was awarded the very distinguished Sagamore of the Wabash Award. To say that Mike loved music is an understatement. He was the music director at church, soloist in the Glee Club at Wabash College, a member of the Navy Blue Jacket Choir, involved in the Symphonic Choir and Indianapolis Arts, Castlewood Chamber Singers, several Barber Shop Quartets, Harmony Opera Club and on the Board of Directors for the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir. Mike also enjoyed wood working and spending time with his family. He had a knack for "teaching". He taught his boys how to treat others by his loving example. He was a patient man and a kind soul.
Durland is survived by his loving wife of 67 years; Sallylou Patterson, sons; Jerry (Joan) Patterson, Bob (Mary) Patterson, Brian (Karen) Patterson and Tim (Angie) Patterson, along with 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and sister; Pamela Morford.
Durland is preceded in death by his son; Scott Patterson and grandson; Christopher Patterson.
A Memorial gathering will take place on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Mooresville First United Methodist Church (900 Indianapolis Rd., Mooresville, Indiana 46158) from 11:00am – 1:00pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be immediately following at the church. Burial will take place at White Lick Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Mike’s name to First United Methodist Church in Mooresville.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville.
