Earl Carter

Earl Carter, 77, Mooresville, passed away August 31, 2019. Mr. Carter was born June 26, 1942, in Lee County, Virginia, to the late Green and Thelma (Haynes) Carter. He married Shirley Rutherford on September 21, 1963, and she preceded him in death on January 31, 2016.

Earl graduated from St. Charles High School. He worked in various positions at the Allison Division of General Motors for 28 years, retiring in 1993. Earl was a member of the Brooklyn Masonic Lodge. He had an appreciation for old cars, enjoyed playing his guitar, and his favorite hobby involved spending time with his grandchildren. He loved spoiling Autumn and Joey and then sending them home! Earl will be fondly remembered by a loving family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; sister, Ella Mae Ely; brothers, Willard and Clyde Carter.

Survivors include two sons, Earl Carter, Jr. and George (Angie) Carter, both of Mooresville; brother, Charles Carter of Mooresville; grandchildren, Autumn Carter and Joey Carter.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 3, 2019, 4 to 8 p.m., in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Mooresville Cemetery.
