Eleanor M. Colbert, 81, Mooresville, passed away March 17, 2016, in St. Francis Hospice House. Mrs. Colbert was born February 10, 1935, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, to the late Harlen and Fannie (Brewer) Eckiss.
She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School and earned degrees from Oakland City University and Indiana University in teaching. Mrs. Colbert was a third grade teacher at Newby Elementary for 25 years and at Northwood Elementary for 2 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Mooresville and also active in the church’s quilting circle. She was also a member of the Morgan County Retired Teachers, Indiana Retired Teachers, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, and the Mooresville Nature Club. Mrs. Colbert was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be fondly remembered by the many lives she touched.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Colbert; brother, Dean Eckiss; sister, Marie Eckiss.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Colbert, to whom she was united in marriage September 5, 1953; son, Tim Colbert (Sharon) of Indianapolis; daughter, Susan Colbert of Mooresville; brothers, Ray and Jack Eckiss; grandchildren, Ryan, Trent, Timmy, and Erica; great grandchildren, Addie Marie and Caleb Benjamin.
Friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of Eleanor Colbert on Monday, March 21, 2016, 4 to 8 p.m., in the First United Methodist Church, 900 Indianapolis Road, Mooresville. Rev. Dennis Payton will officiate the 10 a.m. funeral service on Tuesday, March 22, 2016, in the church. The committal service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, in White Church Cemetery, Princeton. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
