Elfrieda Cooney

Elfrieda (Tracy) Cooney, 84, Mooresville, passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Cooney was born October 4, 1931, in Indianapolis to the late Louis and Iva (Newlin) Tracy.

She attended Monrovia High School and worked for Methodist Hospital and RCA for a period of time. After raising her children, she worked for the State of Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles for more than 21 years, retiring in 1995. Elfrieda enjoyed sewing, painting, “Do-it-Yourself” projects, and using her creativity to create all kinds of crafty gifts. She loved to travel – from rustic camping trips with her children to more elegant cruises later in life. Above all, she cherished her family and will be fondly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Cooney; one son, Dennis “Hoss” Cooney; daughter, Jacqueline Cooney; brother, Bert L. Tracy; sister, Mary Martha Tracy.

Survivors include her children, Michael Cooney (Terry) and Gary Cooney (Teresa), and Tammy Goodman (Jeff) all of Mooresville; siblings, Thomas Tracy of Brooklyn, William Tracy of Greenwood, Bonnie Pierce of Clayton, and Shirley Rouse of Camby; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; special daughter-in-law, Patricia Brewer.

Friends and family will gather on Friday, July 8, 2016, 4 to 8 p.m. in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Rev. Jeff Faull will officiate the 2:30 p.m. funeral service on Saturday, July 9, 2016, in the funeral home. Burial will be in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville.
