Elizabeth J. “Betty” Bothwell, 90, Mooresville, died peacefully December 25, 2015, in St. Francis Hospital, Indianapolis. Mrs. Bothwell was born May 19, 1925, in Indianapolis, to the late Theodore and Frieda (Bohnenkamp) Schuller.
A graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Indianapolis, Mrs. Bothwell worked for many years as an executive secretary, retiring from the United States Postal Service. She was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church and had been the church organist in the 1980s. She was also a member of the Women’s Club. Betty was an avid camper and traveler, crisscrossing the continent many times. Always one to stay busy, she was an accomplished baker and seamstress, a voracious reader, and always had an interest in real estate. At the age of eighty-eight, she and her sister, Mary Grayson, put into action an ambitious sewing project that designed and created carrying bags for walkers and wheelchairs. They donated more than 1,500 of these to the residents of many local nursing homes, hospitals, and rehabilitation facilities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Grover Walden; her second husband, Maurice Bothwell; a son, Mark Walden; and a sister, Martha Yamarick.
Survivors include her children, Christopher Walden (Jane) of Indianapolis, Martha Walden (Elaine Weinreb) of California, Rebecca Widmer (John) of Mooresville, Blaise Walden of Indianapolis, and Matthew Walden of Indianapolis; sister, Mary Grayson of Mooresville; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Friends and family will gather on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, 4 to 8 p.m., in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, 10 a.m., in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Mooresville. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Indianapolis.
