Eugene Frederick Herbstreit, Jr., 68, Plainfield, died July 13, 2015. Mr. Herbstreit was born October 19, 1946, in Cincinnati, to the late Eugene Frederick Herbstreit, Sr. and Helen Mildred Cecelia (Kerley) Herbstreit.
He graduated from Mooresville High School in 1965 and attended Purdue University. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Mr. Herbstreit worked for the Allison Division and Rolls Royce Division of General Motors for 48 years, retiring in 2013. He was a member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, the Plainfield Masonic Lodge #653, and the National Rifle Association. An outdoorsman, Mr. Herbstreit enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved to travel, experience new things, and explore with his family. Above all, he was a devoted family man, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who will be missed by many.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Adam Herbstreit and sister, Sherri Lee Herbstreit.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra L. (Durrett) Herbstreit, to whom he was united in marriage July 12, 1969; daughters, Christina E. Carte (Matt) of Mooresville and Toni L. Scully (Gabe) of Mooresville; four grandchildren, Michael Carte, Olivia Scully, Shawn Carte, and Kaylee Carte; god-children, Andrea Lohman and Bethany Hill; a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will gather Friday, July 17, 2015, 4 to 8 p.m., in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Pastor Brandon Sichting will officiate the 11 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, July 18, 2015, in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Nebo Memorial Park, Martinsville.
