Joel Evia (Payton) Baker, 62, Mooresville and Glasgow, Kentucky, passed away December 15, 2021, at the Bowling Green Medical Center, after battling Covid-19. Jo was born December 31, 1958, in Martinsville, to the late Vernon C. and Gladys Irene (Wilson) Payton. She was married to Terry Lee Baker for 35 years, and he survives.
She attended Monrovia High School. Jo was an exceptionally hard working lady who had tended bar, waited tables, owned Jo’s Barn, & Grill, and helped Terry with their arena, B Bar B. She was strong in her faith, loved to sing karaoke, tending to the horses, and caring for her dogs, Coco and Clyde. Above all, Jo was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She will be fondly remembered for her kindness, generosity, and thoughtfulness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Stapert, Jr.; brothers, Charlie and James V. Payton, Sr.; sister, Clarene McClure.
Survivors include her husband, Terry Lee Baker; children, LaShanda Stapert, Josh Stapert, and Chance Fivecoats; siblings, David (Patty) Payton, John (Crystal) Payton, Lisa (Donny) Bickley, and Juanita “Pete” Payton; grandchildren, Jordyn, Liam, and Juanita Stapert.
Jo’s Life Celebration® Visitation will be Monday, December 20, 2021, 4 to 8 p.m., at the Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the funeral home. David Payton will officiate, and burial will be in West Newton Cemetery.
