Eweather Joyce Stephens, 90, Mooresville, passed away March 8, 2017. Mrs. Stephens was born July 24, 1926, in Mississippi, to the late Elvy and Carrie Belle (Jones) Hickman.
A longtime member of the Mooresville First United Methodist Church, she was also active in the Asbury Circle. She and Mr. Stephens were the leaders of MYF, Methodist Youth Fellowship at church for many years. They also enjoyed traveling together. She was a member of the Mooresville VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary. Mrs. Stephens was an avid gardener, accomplished seamstress, and wonderful cook. She retired from Newcomer Lumber Company in 1988. Above all, she loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be fondly remembered by a loving family and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Raymond Joseph Stephens; two brothers, Bill and John Hickman; sister, Floy Hartel.
Survivors include her daughters, Nancy K. Maish of Mooresville and Marti Salerni (LeRoy) of Bradenton, Florida; sister, Evelyn Howe of Indianapolis, Linda Winkler of Missouri, and Dorothy Merrill of Mississippi; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren.
Friends and family will gather on Sunday, March 12, 2017, 2 to 5 p.m., in the chapel at
Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Monday, March 13, 2017, in the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Dennis Payton will officiate, and burial will be in the Mooresville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Churches in Mission.
