Florence Gores, 97 of Mooresville, passed away October 24, 2015 at the Hearth at Stones Crossing in Greenwood. She was born January 24, 1918 in Fraser, Michigan to the late Albert and Emma (Miller) Heldt.
On July 17, 1958 Florence was united in marriage to her loving husband, Nickolas K. Gores who preceded her in death on August 28, 1981. Nickolas and Florence owned and operated a Ben Franklin Department Store together starting in 1959 with a store in Saginaw, Michigan; in 1961 they moved the store to Mooresville, Indiana where she and Nickolas operated until her retirement in 1978. The store closed in 1988. Florence started her long and successful career with Ben Franklin while working as a clerk at the store in Utica, Michigan. Florence was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Franklin, Indiana.
Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her stepson, Robert J. Gores; her brother, Wallace Heldt and her sister, Irene Jane Heldt. Survivors include her stepdaughter, Debra (Debi Gores) Shyaam Akasha (Husband: L.A. Simon) of Bloomington, Indiana; several step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren.
Family and friends will gather for visitation on Monday, October, 26 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. A funeral service will be held in Utica, Michigan on Wednesday, October 28 at 1:00 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home. Friends and family in Michigan will have calling from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
