Gamal Rateb Scharoubim, 91, of Hoffman Estates, Illinois, passed away July 21, 2019. He was born February 10, 1928, in Cairo, Egypt, to the late Rateb Scharoubim Hanna and Fahima Mikhail Wassef. He married the love of his life Jane Audrey Paterson on September 14, 1971.
Gamal earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Cairo and continued his education at Univerisy of Chicago receiving his MBA. Gamal worked over 30 years in Industrial Chemistry as a chemist. He was a member of the St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church of Palatine, Illinois. Gamal was very dedicated to the Coptic Orthodox Christian Church. He was one the original members that has helped the church to grow all over the United States. He enjoyed chess, classical music and especially talking to his grandchildren. He will be be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings at birth; additionally brothers, Latif, Halim, and Zarif, sisters, Yvonne and Nargus; nephew, Youssef; grandnephew, Bishoy; and grandniece, Sarah.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Audrey Scharoubim of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; daughters, Nadine Ruth (Robert) Pace of Camby and Serena Alexandra Joyner of Cicero, Illinois; brother- in-law, Ian David Paterson of Newbury, England; sister-in-law, Anna Paterson of Newbury, England; grandchildren, Jebediah Xavier Pace, Katherine Marie Joyner, Mitchell Thomas Joyner, and Abigail Rose Joyner; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 22, 2019, at New St. Mary and St. Mark’s Coptic Orthodox Church: 12174 Shelborne Rd, Carmel, In 46032. Burial will take place at Mooresville Cemetery, Mooresville, Indiana, at 3p.m., Monday, July 22, 2019. Memorial contributions may be made to St Mary Coptic Orthodox Church for the Coptic Orphans Fund: 2100 W Frontage Rd, Palatine, IL 60067.
