George W. Simpson, DDS, 91, longtime Franklin resident, died August 4, 2012. Dr. Simpson was born September 25, 1920, in Benton County, to the late Henry E. and Iva Clarise (Bray) Simpson.
He graduated from Monrovia High School, received his undergraduate degree at the Indiana University School of Dentistry, and postdoctoral degree at the University of Michigan. Dr. Simpson practiced family dentistry in Franklin for 61 years and also served as the staff dentist at the Franklin Masonic Home for forty years. He taught graduate classes in Prosthodontics at the IU school of dentistry from 1961 – 1994. He was a member of the American Dental Association (ADA), International Academy of Gnathology, Fellow American College of Dentistry, Fellow International College of Dentists, OMICRON Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society, and the John F. Johnston Society. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and later served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Dr. Simpson was almost as passionate about his hobbies as he was dentistry. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, enjoyed traveling, gardening, and photography. He raised trial dogs, showed horses, and was a beekeeper. Dr. Simpson will be missed for his gentlemanly ways, a great sense of humor, and generous spirit.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Virginia Ruth “Ginnie” Griggs Simpson.
Survivors include one daughter, Soosie Schrader (Bernie) of Nashville; grandson, Corey Schrader (Sara) of Greenwood; one great grandson, Oren Schrader.
The memorial service will begin at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 11, 2012, in Swartz Family Community Mortuary, 300 S. US 31, Franklin. Inurnment will be in West Union Cemetery, Monrovia.
