Georgia Rose Matlock

Georgia Rose Matlock, 88 of Mooresville, passed away Monday, February 9 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis. Georgia was born May 1, 1926 in Terre Haute to the late Ralph and Ethel Marie (Harris) Walters. On August 22, 1942 she married her loving husband, William H. Matlock; after 58 years of marriage, William preceded her in death on March 7, 2001. Georgia was a homemaker and is considered to be the matriarch of her family.

She enjoyed sewing, playing card games and scrabble, putting together puzzles, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with all of her loving family; recently, she experienced the joy of becoming a great great grandmother.

Survivors include her children, William H. (Julia) Matlock, John Clifton Matlock, Patricia (Steve) Elkins, Linda (Thomas) Clem and Marlene (Donald) Stagge; one brother, Pearl Walters and one sister, Annetta Lindsay; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Along with her parents and her husband, Georgia was also preceded in death by five brothers, one sister and two daughters, Brenda Joyce Smith and Sharon Kay Matlock. To honor Georgia’s wishes, a memorial service will be held privately by her family members; following cremation, she will be laid to rest next to her husband in Bethesda Cemetery in West Terre Haute.

Memorial contributions may be given to, American Lung Association or American Diabetes Association.
