Geraldine L. “Gerrie” Anderson, 94, Indianapolis, died peacefully July 12, 2015. Mrs. Anderson was born August 27, 1920, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Luke and Freida Weitzel.
She was the first woman draftsperson for General Motors for a period of time during World War II in the Electromotive Divison. Gerrie was the consummate wife, mother, and grandmother, devoting her life to her family. She enjoyed playing tennis at the Racquet Club and golf at the Country Club of Indianapolis. She will be missed by a loving family and many friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bernie Weitzel.
Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Earl G. Anderson, Jr., to whom she was united in marriage January 31, 1942; daughters, Barb Oliver (Bob) of Indianapolis and Marilyn Krenzke (Brian) of Carmel; brother, Bruce Weitzel of Chicago; sister, Mary Jean Johnson of Chicago; five grandchildren, Chris Oliver, Brian Oliver, Matt Krenzke, Paul Krenzke, and Andrea Wiklund; five great grandchildren, Mason, Sophie, Nikolas, Anna, Lila; brother-in-law, Gordon W. Anderson of California.
Friends and family will gather Friday, July 17, 2015, 1 to 2 p.m., in the chapel at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 9001 Haverstick Road, Indianapolis. There will be an opportunity to share memories, following the visitation at 2 p.m. Inurnment will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.
