Gertrude Wallace
86, of Indianapolis, passed away on March 3, 2020 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Mooresville surrounded by her family. Gertrude was born on July 15, 1933 to the late Hermann and Ida (Grzywna) Kurella in Deutsch-Eylau, Germany.
She was the matriarch and the rock of her family. She married the love of her life, Rendel P. Wallace and were married over 45 years at the time of his passing in 1995. Together they traveled the world as Rendel served in the US Air Force. A talented seamstress, Gertrude started an alteration business, as well as helping with Angie’s cleaning service and in her early years, helped make ends meet as a waitress at a Café in Las Vegas. She was known as the “Fun Mom” who would help build snowmen and play with the neighborhood children. She also enjoyed tending to her garden and dancing the polka and attending October Fest each year at German Park. A wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, she will be greatly missed by all!
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Rendel P. Wallace; brothers Carl, Heintz and an infant brother; sisters Ulla and Irma.
She is survived by her daughters Debra DuPree, Rita Osborne, Mona Wallace, Dolly Aichinger, Janice Evans; son Randy Wallace; brothers Walter and Deeter; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
According to her wishes she will be cremated and laid to rest at a later date with her beloved husband in Marion National Cemetery, Marion, IN. She also requested that no one be sad at her passing, but to remember her fondly and to dance the polka!
