Helen (Gebie) Nuckels, 79, born on March 12, 1934, passed away on September 20, 2013 at IU West Hospital surrounded by her family. Helen, daughter of Guy and Myrtle Ball, was originally from Gate City, Virginia. She was one of 9 children including 4 brothers, Delmar (Bud) Ball, Willard (Sonny) Ball, Doyle (Jingo) Ball, Alan (Poss) Ball and 4 sisters, Hazel (Sis) McConnel, Frankie Taylor, Carol Summey , and her only surviving sibling Shirley McClellan. She married Frank Fields in 1953 and had 2 boys. After death separated them she remarried and moved to the Indianapolis area in 1963. They eventually settled in Avon in 1969 where she raised her four children Gary Fields, Randy Fields, Robin Anita Nuckels Waldrup, Cindy Nuckels Hughes.
She worked at Polygram Group Distribution where she retired in 1996. After retirement she enjoyed bowling with many friends at Western Bowl. Helen was an avid Indianapolis Colts and Peyton Manning fan. Along with her love of football she enjoyed completing crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. She loved having cookouts and celebrating birthdays. She contributed to numerous charities including St. Jude Hospital. Beloved sister, mom and grandmother, Helen was a giver to all that surrounded her. Her love and caring for others had no boundaries. She welcomed all that entered her home and made them feel like they were family. Her love and devotion to her children and grandchildren were like no other. She was an angel to all who loved her and will forever remain that way.
A huge thank you to family who helped and stood by her side during her day to day struggles including her daughter, Cindy and her granddaughter, Amanda.
Helen’s spirit lives on in her sister, Shirley McClellan, children Gary (Cea) Fields, Robin Anita (Larry) Waldrup, Cindy Hughes, and daughter in-law, Mary Fields, her 7 grandchildren Jeremy (Katka) Fields, Brooke (Robert Arnold) Moore, Michael Nuckels, Brittany Fields, Jake (Brittany) Fields, Amanda Waldrup, and Luke (Kaitlyn Davis) Fields. She also had 6 great-grandchildren whom she adored, Micah Moore, Delaney Moore, Kenzie Moore, Logan Fields, Mason Turner, and Gibson Arnold. She was preceded in death by her son, Randy Fields.
Funeral services will be at the Carlisle-Branson Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. with burial at West Newton Cemetery. Calling will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of services on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
