Howard B. Mitchell

Howard B. Mitchell, 89 of Mooresville passed away the afternoon of August 18, 2016 at his home and surrounded by his loved ones. He was born March 26, 1927 in Terre Haute to the late Leo and Goldie (Boring) Mitchell. On June 28, 1947 Howard was united marriage to Wilma R. (McConkey) Mitchell and she survives.

Howard proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II; he was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked in Skilled Trades for General Motors for 36 years and retired in 1988. Howard enjoyed the outdoors, working in his yard and the farm life. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, his favorite hobby was spending precious time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Wilma; two sons, Kirk S. Mitchell of Mooresville and Jerry D. (Luann) Mitchell of Plainfield; two daughters, Darlene K. (John) Miller of Mooresville, Tonya R. (Bob) Oliphant of Clayton; 10 grandchildren, Stacey, Chad, Natalie, Tara, Samantha, Seth, Matthew, Michael, Jennifer and Jeremy; and 21 great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Howard was also preceded in death by three brothers, Delbert D. Mitchell, Roy Mitchell and Carl “Bud” Mitchell; and a sister, Velma Mitchell.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of Howard B. Mitchell from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday August 24, 2016 in the chapel at Carlisle-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory in Mooresville. The memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery in Camby.
