Irvin Elwood Wilcher, 90, Mooresville passed away June 12, 2023, at the Springs of Mooresville. Mr. Wilcher was born November 8, 1932, in Hustonville, Kentucky, to the late Earl Bryant and Bonnie Hazel (King) Wilcher. He married Nancy Sue (VanHoy) Wilcher on August 31, 1952, and she preceded him in death on July 19, 2020.
He graduated from Mooresville High School in 1951. Elwood was a United States Air Force Veteran, serving during the Korean War era. During that time, he was stationed in California, where he also worked at Bob Hope’s driving range. Later he was stationed in Orlando, Florida and became a part of the Air Force’s first television squadron. He was a co-owner of Wilcher Ford with his late brother, Curt, and later owned Wilcher Auto Sales.
Elwood was an avid fisherman. He and Nancy enjoyed fishing trips to Colorado and Minnesota. He had a very talented green thumb and took great pride in growing beautiful hostas. He loved the water – boating, the beach, and fishing were places of contentment for Elwood. Elwood loved auto racing and regularly attended the Indy 500 and the Daytona 500. He and Nancy enjoyed many winters in DeLand, Florida, where he was known by many friends as “Woody”. Elwood will be fondly remembered by his loving family for his kindness and generous nature.
In addition to his parents and Nancy, he was preceded in death by his brother, Loren Curt Wilcher.
Survivors include his son, Douglas (Camille) Wilcher; daughter, Cynthia Ann (Robert) Chappell; sister Sally (the late Paul) Sterrett; three grandchildren, Amber (Tom) Atzert, Evan Wilcher, and Kyla Wilcher; great grandchildren, Jade Atzert and Ava Wilcher.
Elwood’s Life Celebration® Visitation and Funeral Service will be held at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 21, 2023, 12 Noon – 2 p.m., with the service beginning at 2 p.m. Cremation will follow at the Morgan County Crematory, and the inurnment will be at White Lick Cemetery.
