Jack W. Black, 77, Camby, died August 3, 2013, in Methodist Hospital, as a result of injuries sustained in a July car accident. Mr. Black was born November 27, 1935, in Indianapolis, the son of the late Leslie William and Odessa Lillian ( Stretchberry) Black.
He graduated from Manuel High School. Mr. Black was employed at the Allison Division of General Motors for 33 years. He was then employed at Pitney Bowes for more than ten years. A faith-filled man, he was a devoted member of Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Mooresville. He was a former member and longtime deacon at the Indianapolis Baptist Temple. Additionally, he was instrumental in starting Faith Baptist Church and Eagledale Baptist Church. He always stayed active and enjoyed playing the piano, printing various prints and bulletins for the church, hunting, jewelry making and bouquet arranging for the sick and shut-ins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Oscar Harland Black.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Black; children, Elizabeth Meeks of Indianapolis, Kathy Price of Indianapolis, Scott Black of Camby, and Mark Black of Camby; extended family, Mike Bamford; sister, Lillian Marie Stoneman of Ohio; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren (and one on the way).
Friends and family will gather on Tuesday, August 6, 2013, 4 to 8 p.m., in Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 1150 State Road 144, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at the church. Pastor Brandon Sichting will officiate the service, and burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
