James A. Kays, 84, lifelong Mooresville resident, passed away peacefully at home June 27, 2019. Mr. Kays was born February 23, 1935, in Mooresville, to the late Harry A. and Bonnie Ethel (Smoot) Kays.
He graduated from Mooresville High School and proudly served in the United States Navy. He worked for many years as an iron worker for Tousley-Bixler Construction Company. Jim attended Mt. Gilead Church and was a member of American Legion Post 103. He was an avid golfer and fisherman. A social man, Jim always enjoyed keeping in touch with his friends. Jim was also proud of his home and took great pride in caring for his garden every year. He will be fondly remembered by a loving family and many loyal friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Jean (Caudill) Kays; brothers, Don, Bill, and Dean Kays; sisters, Sue Link and Dora “Cookie” Barrier.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie (Johnson) Kays; sons, Jim Kays of Florida and Terry Kays of Mooresville; daughter, Kelly Carr of Indianapolis; sister, Linda Kays; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2019, in the chapel at Carlisle - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Pastor Terry Crist will officiate, and cremation will follow services at the Morgan County Crematory, Mooresville.
