James A. Mitchner, 85, Mooresville, passed away February 5, 2019. Mr. Mitchner was born September 20, 1933, in Jackson County, to the late Edgar and Gayona (Brown) Mitchner. He married Elizabeth Case on September 17, 1955, and she survives.
Mr. Mitchner graduated from Martinsville High School and continued his education at the General Motors Institute. He enjoyed a career with the Allison Division of General Motors from 1951 – 92, retiring as the Director of Customer Satisfaction. He was a 50+ year member of Gideons International and served on the Salvation Army Board. Jim was always active in church and helped start Faith Missionary Church in Martinsville. He was a former member of Grace Missionary Church in Mooresville and First Baptist Church in Martinsville, and most recently a member of Camby Community Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Adrian Mitchner, Morris Mitchner, Faye Mitchner, June Mitchner, Lillian Prather, Robert Mitchner, and Ina Grace Mitchner.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth; one son, Kent (Hope) Mitchner of Kentucky; sister, Doris Graber of Coal City; grandchildren, David, William, and Rebecca Mitchner and Chris Brennan; great grandchildren, John Mitchner, Caleb and Jordan Brennan.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, February 8, 2019, in the chapel at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 9, 2019, at the funeral home. Pastor Charlie Paxton will officiate, and burial will follow at White Lick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, Salvation Army, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
