James Kent Waltz, 68, Martinsville, died November 9, 2012. Mr. Waltz was born February 8, 1944, in Indianapolis, to the late Roy Elijah and Henrietta Estes (Smith) Waltz.
Jim graduated from Martinsville High School in 1962 and proudly served in the United States Marine Corp, being honorably discharged in 1965. He worked for more than thirty years as a foreman at the Allison Division of General Motors. Following retirement, Jim worked for the Department of Natural Resources. He was a member of the Martinsville American Legion and the Marine Corp League. An avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman, Jim was a member of the NRA. He was also a member of the Liars’ Club. Above all, he was a great family man and was strongly devoted to his grandchildren. Jim will be sorely missed by a loving family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Renay (Bennet) Waltz.
Survivors include his son, Scott C. Waltz of Greenwood; stepsons, Paul Burris of Trafalgar, Jerome Burris of Martinsville, and Darren Burris of Bedford; brothers, Stephen “Red Eye” Waltz (Rosie) of Mooresville and Doug Waltz (Vicki) of Bloomington; grandchildren, Brandon, Kiersten, and Chaince Burris; Kaylee and Jackson Waltz.
The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Monday, November 12, 2012, in Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Mooresville. Friends may call on Sunday, November 11, 2012, 2 to 6 p.m., in the Carlisle - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville. Burial will be in Nebo Memorial Park, Martinsville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mooresville Veterans Memorial, c/o the Community Foundation of Morgan County.
