James L. Vanness, 69, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2016. Mr. Vanness was born March 10, 1947, in Redwood Walls, Minnesota, to the late Leland E. and Helen (Garahardt) Vanness.
He proudly served in the United State Navy and the Unites States Army. A proud veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Post #262 in Luxemburg, Wisconsin. He worked as a truck driver for many years. Prior to moving to Indianapolis in 2009, he enjoyed living in Florida and in Wisconsin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Crystal Lee Vanness.
Survivors include two sons, James and Brian Vanness, both of Wisconsin; sisters, Nancy Casey and Neasa Thornton, both of Wisconsin; companion, Elizabeth Reese of Indianapolis.
Calling hours will not be observed. A graveside service will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Luxemburg, Wisconsin. Military honors will be offered by the local Honor Guard and burial will take place next to his grandfather.
