James R. Ellis I, 80, longtime Mooresville resident, passed away January 7, 2022, after a brief illness. Mr. Ellis was born August 28, 1941, in San Jancinto, Indiana, to the late Leslie Raymond and Florence Gladys (Koelmel) Ellis. He married Phyllis Marie Ann (Abrams) Ellis on March 21, 1969, and she preceded him in death on October 14, 2021.
He graduated from Columbus High School. Jim worked for many years for Indianapolis Power & Light as a telecommunications specialist. He retired in 2001. He was an active amateur radio operator, using the call sign K9BUD. Jim enjoyed working with computers and was quite interested in free to air satellite. He will be fondly remembered by his loving family for his intelligence, kindness, and gentle nature.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Garland “Pete” Abrams.
Survivors include sons, Leslie Lonnie Ellis and James Robert Ellis, II; grandchildren, Benjamin Loren Ellis, Stephen-Paul James Ellis, and William Bradley Ellis; great grandchildren, Rowan Scott Ellis and Trey William Ellis.
Jim’s Life Celebration® Visitation will be Friday, January 14, 2022, 1 to 2 p.m., at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville.
