James R. O’Quinn
75, of Martinsville, passed away December 24, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. James was born on September 26, 1943 in Baptist Valley, Virginia to the late, James Garmon O’Quinn and Martha Irene (Reichert) O’Quinn.
James proudly served his country in the US Army and later earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of South Florida. When he returned home from the service, he was visiting family, which lead to a chance meeting with Elodie “Dee” Hopkins. Dee and James hit it off and three months later married on March 18, 1966 and recently celebrated 52 years of marriage in 2018. James retired as a district manager for Steak and Shake. He will be remembered as a strong, kind, compassionate man with a big heart. He was always there to lend a hand or help someone or an animal in need. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, Shrine, Moose Lodge, American Legion and VFW all in Bradenton, Florida.
He is survived by wife of 52 years, Elodie “Dee” O’Quinn; son, James R. O’Quinn, Jr. and his wife Alice; daughter, Jamie Kidd and her husband, Michael Shawn; four sisters, Judy Tingler, Clara Powers, Melva Miller, Anita Vaaler; two grandchildren, Stacey Michele Kidd and Samantha Marie Kidd.
A time to remember and celebrate James’ life will be held Wednesday, January 2nd from 2-4pm at Carlisle- Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, Mooresville, with a memorial service starting at 4pm in the funeral home, led by Chaplain Dave Francouer.
